Praise for Moville teachers 11.01.11

by Caoimhinn Barr, Inishowen Independent

A NUMBER of Moville teachers have been praised for cutting short their Christmas holidays to help students complete vital project work for their Leaving and Junior Certs.
Up to 20 teachers at Moville Community College volunteered to go back to work for four days last week, allowing a full timetable of classes to be scheduled for third and fifth year pupils, who will sit State exams this summer.
Scores of students also headed back to the college early with many completing crucial course work ahead of mock tests next month.
Principal Anthony Doogan took the decision to reopen the Foyleside school six days early after more than 10 term days were missed in December because of the freezing weather.
Mr Doogan was not surprised by the positive response he received.
“I’m not surprised at all by the professional attitude shown by the staff who have come in this week. Moville is very lucky to have that level of dedication in its teachers, many of whom saw it as their professional duty to go back to work early,”
Moville Community College Principal, Anthony Doogan.
he said last week.
He also praised the students, who cut short their festive break to catch up on essential exam work. He said the school was employing a number of other projects, including after-school seminars and homework clubs, to make up for days lost in December.
“I have been extremely impressed with the students’ efforts this week. Some of them have completely finished their projects allowing them to concentrate on forthcoming exams,” he added.
Moville Community College also opened on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday prior to Christmas to facilitate exam students.
