VANDALS in an Inishowen
town sent a stark Valentine's Day message to
election candidates by burning down their posters.
Gardai are investigating the arson attack on a
number of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael election posters in
Moville in the Donegal North East constituency.
Four large scale
campaign posters, erected on specially-made wooden
frames, were destroyed in the overnight blaze.
Two of the posters belonged to Fine Gael candidates,
Joe McHugh and his running mate John Ryan while two
belonged to Fianna Fáil's Charlie McConalogue.
They were erected on a raised bank of land on the
main roadway in the seaside town. The posters cost
an estimated €35 - €50 each.

Cllr McConalogue said
he was "really disappointed" at the attack.
"Losing the posters doesn't bother me, but it's very
disappointing that the fire service had to be called
out to attend this incident. That's a terrible waste
of their time and resources," he said.
Gardai are investigating the incident that happened
around 4.15am. Local fire crews attended the scene
of the fire located across the road from a
residential area. A garda spokesperson appealed for
any witnesses to contact Moville garda station on
07493 82002.
