We wool win the All-Ireland! 22.07.11

by Caoimhinn Barr, Inishowen Independent

THE German soccer team had their lucky octopus for the World Cup last year.
But this summer, the Donegal Gaelic footballers have an even more potent weapon - Sam the Ram from Carn!
Owned by Pat McLaughlin (Napoloeon) from Glentogher, the black-faced mountain sheep has already correctly predicted Donegal’s first Ulster title in 19 years, ensuring safe progress to the quarter-final for Jim McGuinness’ men. Now the mystic animal thinks Donegal wool go all the way and scoop an historic second All-Ireland title!
Revealing the name of the lucky mascot to the Inishowen Independent yesterday, Pat said Sam the Ram was the talk of Clones last Sunday.
“There was an awful lot of talk about him at the game against Derry last weekend. Many people had seen Sam’s picture in the paper,” he said.
Sam the Ram.
Pat said the lucky sheep will be decked out in county green and yellow colours again later this month ahead of Donegal’s quarter-final clash in Croke Park.
“Now that we’re in the last eight we can go all the way. We are in there with the best teams in the country now; with a bit of luck we can do it,” he said.
Hopefully our good luck charm Sam will be introduced to his namesake after the third Sunday in September. Ewe better believe it!
