A great racket as Moville tennis
returns

THE next Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal could emerge
from Moville in years to come following the
completion of works at the tennis court in the
Foyleside town this week.
A new state-of-the-art net, posts, gate and fence
were erected while the tarmac surface was newly
painted. FAS scheme workers, who carried out the
operation, also cleared away dense vegetation, which
had encroached onto the court surface.
Leo McCauley, chairman of the North East Inishowen
Tourist Development Company, which sponsors the FAS
scheme, welcomed the news enthusiastically.
“This is our 17th successive FAS Community
Employment Scheme and we are delighted that it has
been used to benefit the local community,” he said.
“The aim of the North East Inishowen Tourist
Development Company is to promote tourism and
economic growth here,” McCauley added. |

Also present at the
launch on the Moville Green, was County Councillor
Martin Farren who heaped praise on those behind the
project.
“I’m delighted to see the tennis court looking so
well after the excellent work carried out by the FAS
team under the supervision of Liam McDermott. I
would like to thank Donegal County Council for
supplying the vital materials for the court,” he
said.
“I would also like to pay tribute to Leo McCauley
and Michael Gillen for fully supporting this project
and a special word of thanks to Michael Hegarty who
was behind it from the very start.”
“We are privileged to have an experienced tennis
coach of Liam Sweeney’s ability and it is great to
have a facility like this for the people to enjoy.
From a tourism point of view it will prove very
successful and I’m sure visitors to the town and
locals will derive many hours of enjoyment
throughout the summer months,” Cllr. Farren added.
