Tiernasligo School celebrates 100 years 05.07.11

THIS year will see the 100th anniversary of Tiernasligo National School in Urris, Clonmany.
A series of events are planned for late August when there will be a Mass, a concert and several other events. Principal Colm Davies said the school was looking forward to the celebrations.
He said: “The centenary has been organised by the Parents Association and there will a series of events held to mark the occasion.
“I have been principal here for the past nine years and it is a great occasion for the school.”
He added: “As far as I am aware the school has been on the same site since it was first opened.
“I know that the Parents Association are hoping to hear from past pupils with their memories of the school and its rich history.”

A Facebook site has been set up to mark the centenary of the school. Anyone with memorabilia or old photos of the school is asked to contact a member of the Parents Association. Pupils at Tiernasligo NS recently released balloons to launch their 100th anniversary celebrations. And a special presentation was also made to mark Fr Joe Sweeney’s Golden Jubilee as a priest.
