Charles Macklin creative writing workshops 04.10.13

THE Charles Macklin Autumn School takes place from October 11-13 in Culdaff and is part of the City of Culture programme this year. Every year the festival celebrates the life and work of the playwright Charles Macklin as well as acknowledging the creative work of local writers and artists.
Aspiring writers should note that on Saturday 12th October there are two creative writing workshops that would be well worth attending:
10.00-12.00 – “Telling your own Story” – This is a Memoir workshop facilitated by Queens University Writer in Residence and Belfast journalist, Malachi O’Doherty. Malachi has published several works of memoir including, I Was A Teenage Catholic, The Telling Year and Under His Roof. He is also a familiar voice on BBC Radio Ulster.
2.00pm-4.00pm – “Building a Paper House” – This is a poetry and creative writing workshop under the expert guidance of Belfast poet Maureen Boyle who has received many Arts Council bursaries and in 2007 was awarded the Ireland Chair of Poetry Prize and the Strokestown International Poetry Prize. In 2011 she was a recipient of an ACES – an Artist’s Career Enhancement Award from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. In 2013 she won the Fish Short Memoir Prize.
Maureen judged this year’s Macklin Poetry Competition and will host the prize-giving ceremony and readings in St Buadan’s Church after the workshop at 4.30 pm.
