Donegal Darkness into Light suicide event launched 31.03.15

THE Donegal Darkness into Light suicide and self-harm awareness event was launched yesterday supported by a number of local sports stars.
Donegal GAA manager Rory Gallagher; senior player Karl Lacey; Martin McHugh and his sons, senior players Mark and Ryan McHugh took part in the event. It was MC'd by TV3 presenter Noel Cunningham.
Pieta House and volunteers from the Darkness Into Light committees across the county also attended.
Darkness into Light is now in its seventh year with last year's attracting 80,000 participants in 39 locations across Ireland, London and Sydney.

It will take place on May 9 this year with a unique, early morning experience which begins in darkness at 4.15am as thousands of people walk or run a 5km route while dawn is breaking.
“With three venues set to host the event in Donegal this year, including Donegal Town and Maghery-Rosses for the first time, it's an example of how Darkness Into Light is uniting people across the globe in solidarity with those who suffer,” said founder Joan Freeman.
“While suicide is a devastating tragedy, we must not forget that there is hope, there is help, and Pieta House will be there to provide both.”
Registrations are now being taken and further details are at www.darknessintolight.ie .
