First of refugee families arrive in Inishowen 17.11.17

FAMILIES have begun to arrive in Inishowen under the Irish Refugee Protection Programme with the first families being housed in Carndonagh.
The Office for the Promotion of Migrant Integration (OPMI) has been engaging with Donegal County Council to resettle the families which was delayed in the summer due to the severe flash floods in August.
The council has today appeal to people to give the families "time and space" to settle into their new lives.
A local resettlement interagency steering group, comprised of representatives from relevant public service providers has been working with the OPMI to facilitate the resettlement.
It is expected that about thirty families from Syria will be resettled in the county.
In a statement today, the local authority said: "Donegal County Council would like to acknowledge the support provided by all organisations and agencies involved in this process and especially the positive community response received to date.
"The aim is now to support each of these families in their resettlement and we ask that these families are given the time and space to allow them to settle into their new life here in Donegal."
