Return of Carn Court Day 27.10.10

THE 'Court Day' returns to Carndonagh after a two-year absence on Tuesday, November 16.
The old courthouse closed in May 2008 for what was expected to be a major facelift. However, the extensive revamp was shelved due to the downturn and a number of smaller improvements have been carried out in recent weeks.
The minor works include the provision of a public accessible toilet and associated works at ground level.
They also include the replacement of five front windows, carpeting of the landing and stairs and the decoration of the first floor consultation room.
Repairs to the front steps, some plastering and minor painting work and roof repairs were also carried out.
Senator Cecilia Keaveney said: "The fact that there is a date set puts a level of certainty on the reopening of the courthouse that locals will appreciate. As had been feared for Carn, often when old buildings close they do not reopen.

"I will continue to press for outstanding issues to be addressed as quickly as funding is available but I commend those working within the Courts Services for getting this facility back in operation."
