Local schoolchildren get creative 25.11.10

Inishowen creams milk carton sculpture awards

CREATIVE Inishowen schoolchildren were overall winners in a competition to make sculptures using Donegal Creameries' milk cartons.
Sixth class at St Colmcille's N.S., Greencastle, scooped the top prize in the group section after fashioning a fantastic brown chicken called 'Alice'.
Pictured with ‘Alice The Chicken’ are St Colmcille's N.S., pupils Eimear Henry, Charlotte Van Stiphout, Grace Diver, Chloe Moir, Sarah McCauley and Ciara Kay. Also pictured is their teacher, Fionnuala Monaghan.
Meanwhile, the overall winner in the individual section was Beibhinn McClure from third class in St Patrick’s Girls School in Carndonagh who made a lovely owl.
The competition was run through the inaugural Donegal Creameries Health and Wellbeing Educational Curriculum resource.
It challenged students to get creative and sculpt their own pieces of artwork using nothing but milk cartons.
Donegal Creameries said the novel competition attracted a "very encouraging response" from schools around the county.
