Derry outing for Moville Gospel Choir 30.03.10

MOVILLE Gospel Choir are bringing their hugely popular repertoire to Derry City for the first time with a concert on Easter Tuesday, April 6.
The show will take place in the beautiful Methodist Church on Carlisle Road at 8pm sharp. The bulk of the proceeds will go towards the Moville Methodist Hall rebuilding fund.
The choir, led by musical directors Deborah Kelly and Frank Fiorentini, has been performing regularly to packed attendances at Mass in St Pius X Church, Moville, since January 2009.
Moville Parish Priest Fr Pat O'Hagan said: “I am delighted that the choir has kindly agreed to perform at this concert. This is an acknowledgement to the Methodist Church for their unprecedented kindness to Moville Parish in allowing their hall to be used for weekday Masses when we were refurbishing St Pius X last year."
Moville Methodist Minister Rev Eric Lawson said the proceeds of the concert would significantly help their rebuilding project.
“The Gospel Choir has created quite a storm in the area since they started to perform. Not only do they sing at Mass but have also done concerts, wedding and funerals. I had the pleasure of attending their concert in Caiseal Mara, Moville, last year and I know that their uplifting brand of music will go down well in Derry," said Rev Lawson.
The choir came about 18 months ago when Deborah and Frank were asked by the then Moville parish priest, Fr Paddy O'Kane, to put together a group of Gospel singers.
"Little did we know how successful it would be," said Deborah. "It has involved a lot of hard work and dedication as we have up to 50 members including singers and band members. Feedback from Mass attendances and concert goers has been very encouraging. We are looking forward to bringing our show to the people of my own native Derry and I hope people can come out to see us in this beautiful venue.”
The concert will involve a mix of traditional Gospel and modern favourites as well as performances by individual choir members. Admission is £9 (or €10) including supper. Tickets can be obtained from the following:
