Get on air with ICRfm 22.03.10

INISHOWEN Community Radio is offering local community and voluntary groups a great opportunity to get on air and publicise their events and projects. A free training workshop will take place later this week to show local groups how to use ICRfm's Outside Broadcast Unit (OBU).
The OBU, which was part funded by Donegal County Council, has already been used to great effect during last year's Blessing of the Fleet in Greencastle as well as the official launch of Buncrana Youth Club’s new premises.
However, station manager Jim Doherty said there was some confusion about how groups can use the resource to their advantage or how it worked.
“Many groups think it’s just a case of turning up and starting broadcasting but it’s not as simple as that," said Jim.
"Most events that people want us to broadcast from are held at weekends, bank holidays or evenings and it costs money to run the OBU. In an effort to raise awareness of the types of events the station can cover and how the community can use

the resource, we’ve drafted a policy that hopefully explains all that and organised a training workshop for Thursday, March 25.”
ICR is one of the best-equipped radio stations in Ireland and is "equal even to some of the commercial stations," says Jim.
“We’ve always believed that investing money and effort in providing quality equipment, training and opportunities for our volunteers and staff is worth it. That is why we are one of the most-highly regarded stations in Ireland The OBU has been added to our list of equipment resources but it is also a community resource," he added.
The OBU workshop takes place at the ICRfm station in Carndonagh on Thursday, March 25, at 7pm. For more information or to book your place, please contact Jim Doherty on 074 9329105.
