Carn student laid to rest 07.01.10

THE funeral took place yesterday of a young student who was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Carndonagh last weekend. Joe McLaughlin, a final-year engineering student at NUI Galway, died instantly when he was hit by a car at Tiernaleague, a short distance from his home in Glasha, Carndonagh.
The driver failed to stay at the scene, however, a man presented himself at the local Garda station later that day. Mr McLaughlin, 23, was a former member of Carndonagh GAA Club and was described by club chairman Anthony Burke as "a lovely young man" whom he would be "proud to call my own". Chief mourners at the funeral in his hometown yesterday were his parents Willie Joe, a farmer and Mary, a retired nurse and his three sisters. Mr McLaughlin was laid to rest following midday Requiem Mass at the Church of the Sacred Heart. The late Joe McLaughlin.
