Keaveney runs 4-hr marathon 27.10.10

DONEGAL'S Fianna Fáil senators put in impressive performances at the 2010 Dublin City Marathon. Moville's Senator Cecilia Keaveney finished the marathon in just over four hours while her colleague Senator Brian Ó Dómhnaill, a former international race walker, finished in under four hours. The former was running to raise money for the Friends of Letterkenny Hospital while Senator Ó Dómhnaill pounded the 26-mile route for the Donegal Hospice.
In the lead-up to the race, Senator Keaveney described the 'learning curve' that was the preparation for the marathon.

"I have met people locally who literally just 'take it in their stride' but for me, who hasn't done anything like this before, every extra tenth of a mile has been an occasion to mark," she said.
In the five weeks up to the big event, she managed to get to the 20 plus mile mark. "Running from Moville to Derry was definitely not a goal I had ever set myself and yet I have achieved it. To practice the 22 miles, I made a few runs from Redcastle to near the Foyle Hospice and back," she said.
