GAA for people with disabilities

YOUNG people with
disabilities in Inishowen are getting a chance to
take part in Gaelic Games thanks to a locally-based
coaching initiative.
Inishowen New Horizons Project, in conjunction with
local GAA coaches, John Gibbons and Leo Gill, has
organised a ten-week coaching course for
participants on the Inishowen New Start programme.
The coaching course, run with the support of the
Donegal Sports Partnership, aims to teach new skills
and games to the group by engaging them in fun
interactive sessions.
New Start Project co-ordinator Kate Kelly says that
feedback from participants has been very positive.
She said the group thoroughly enjoy taking part in
the programme. |

GAA coaches, John and
Leo have been working with the Inishowen New Start
Project for a number of years and have vast
experience working with people of all abilities.
Sports Inclusion Disability Officer with Donegal
Sports Partnership, Thérèse Laverty added: "It’s
great to see initiatives like these which are a
partnership between different organisations. It’s
evident from watching the group just how much can be
achieved by their participation in the sessions." If
