"Let's get Inishowen working" 12.04.10

THE community of Inishowen is been urged to come together in Buncrana this week in a bid to get the people of the peninsula working again.
The event, organised by local businessman Brian Flanagan with the support of Inishowen Development Partnership, business leaders and local representatives, will take place in the Plaza, Main Street, on Thursday, April 15, from 7.30pm.
The evening will begin with an opportunity to listen to the stories and new business ideas from six successful business leaders including Seagate executive director Gerry Kindlon and Declan Ganley.
They will share the secrets of their own success and what new business opportunities they feel could be developed in the area.
The floor will then be opened up for entrepreneurial ideas from the audience while submissions in writing will also be welcome from those less comfortable with public speaking.
Brian Flanagan said he was looking forward to hearing ideas from the public in Inishowen and information on successful markets "towards which our youth – indeed our whole community - should be designing their career choices and entrepreneurial efforts".
Declan Ganley who is to speak about his business successes in the Plaza, Buncrana.
Mr Flanagan said it was envisaged the event would be repeated twice a year with a team set up to further the process throughout the year.
The event follows a day of interactive workshops for secondary students.
Máire Gallagher, Director of School Employer Connections, the event organisers, says: “We are very grateful to all of the business people who responded so positively to this initiative and are giving generously of their valuable time to inform and mentor young people at a critical point in their education.”
Mayor of Buncrana, Lee Tedstone, added: “As Mayor, I feel that this type of positive and proactive initiative is exactly what Buncrana and Inishowen need.  From my own personal perspective as a director of a technology company, I feel it is essential for business people to help educators prepare our young people to make informed career choices in changing technological times.”
