Buncrana Poles mourn lost president 21.04.10

A BUNCRANA school joined in solidarity with its Polish pupils as their heartbroken nation bid farewell to President Lech Kaczynski.
The red and white flag of Poland flew at half-mast outside Scoil Mhuire last week as a mark of respect to the ten pupils from the Eastern European country who attend the school.
Principal, Liam Rainey, explained: “We wanted to show the Polish students that we are thinking about them and their families after the tragedy. We held special prayers at assembly after the awful news this week because we felt it was important to acknowledge what has happened."

Mr Kaczynski, his wife and dozens of the country's political and military elite were tragically killed after their plane crashed as it approached Smolensk airport in western Russia on April 10.
Witnesses said that the flight slammed into the ground and exploded after clipping some trees as it came in to land. All 97 passengers aboard were killed. Poland declared a week of national mourning as a result. (Inishowen Independent)
