Man critical after Moville crash 07.07.09

by Linda McGrory

A MAN from the Buncrana area was transferred to a Belfast hospital yesterday with critical injuries sustained in a road crash in Moville on Sunday. The single-vehicle accident, involving a gold-coloured 4x4, happened around 7.45pm at Carnagarve on the main Greencastle to Moville Road. The vehicle, which was travelling in the Moville direction, left the road and crashed into a ditch before ending up on its side. The road was busy at the time with people travelling on the main road following an annual vintage car show and local music festival.
Members of Moville Fire Station work at the scene of Sunday's accident at Carnagarve.
There were three men in the British-registered vehicle. It's understood two of them were able to walk away from the wreckage, however, a third was trapped underneath. Emergency services battled to release the man from beneath the 4x4 and he was subsequently rushed to Altnagelvin hospital with serious injuries including major blood loss. He was transferred to Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital yesterday morning. It is understood the victim is a man in his 30s and from the Buncrana area. Forensic officers yesterday examined the scene which was sealed off for most of the day. Diversions were put in place while traffic was redirected to use a lay-by in front of houses nearby. Gardai continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
An ambulance arrives at the scene of the single vehicle crash.
