Fifty cycling women sought 11.10.09

by Liam Porter, Inishowen Independent

LADIES from across Inishowen are being sought to take part in a special sponsored cycle on October 18 to raise funds for the Buncrana Nursing Unit Garden Fund.
The unique event hopes to see 50 women take to the bicycles on a sponsored run towards Fahan, Burnfoot and on to Bridgend before returning to the Nursing Unit in Buncrana.
Speaking to the Inishowen Independent this week one of the organisers, Georgina Dixon, said the cycle would be a fun event and was not just for people with cycling experience.
“We need people to realise that this is a fun day and people don’t need to worry if they don’t have much cycling experience. The cycle will not be carried out at a great pace and they don’t need a specialist bike or anything like that.”
Instead said Georgina ladies taking part just need any bicycle in a road worth condition, but said that a helmet is a must.
Georgina Dixon, Eddie Donaghey, Geraldine Porter, Roisin Carter, Bridget Harley and Phelim McCallion get set for the sponsored cycle in aid of Buncrana Nursing Unit Garden Fund.
“The aim is really to get more women on their bikes and at the same time raise some money for a very worth cause.”
The cycle gets under way at 10am and registration will take place beforehand at 9am costing €10 for adults and €5 for children. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Those who would like to help raise some more money for this worthy cause can also take a sponsorship card which are available from Georgina Dixon on 086-3273619, Margaret Dixon 087 1405306, Grainne Gillen on 074 9374125 or from Phelim McCallion, bikes and toys.
“There will be lots of spot prizes and refreshments after the cycle and we’re hoping as many ladies as possible from all over Inishowen will come out and enjoy the day,” Georgina said.
