Drumfries school produces newspaper  28.10.09

PUPILS at St. Patrick’s National School in Drumfries are getting ready this week to put their finishing touches to a new school newspaper they hope to have out once every term.
The industrious fifth and sixth class students from Mrs Walsh’s class have worked extremely hard on the new paper which they will have available this week.
The students have been working very hard over the past few weeks on the new publication, which will include interviews with some of the school students and a comprehensive sports section.
“We started out thinking it would be a four page paper but it grew and grew and now we have ten,” class teacher Mrs Walsh told the Inishowen Independent last week.
As part of their work on putting the paper together, the classroom was visited last week by Inishowen Independent editor, Liam Porter.
He gave the students an insight into how a newspaper is put together and answered many of their questions.
“The students were so enthusiastic about their project and it was easy to see that their hard work has paid off because having had a glimpse of their new paper I know it will be a fantastic succcess,” he said.
But the paper isn’t confined to work from the fifth and sixth class students and there are valuable contributions made by some of the other classes in the school as well.
The Drumfries students are looking forward to their new paper coming out this week and are already starting to make plans for the next edition which, they hope, will be ready before Christmas. (Inishowen Independent)
