Lifeline for Foyle and Swilly ferries 12.06.09

THE seasonal Lough Swilly ferry will set sail next Friday, June 19, while the Lough Foyle ferry service has been granted an extension to run until September 30, it's been confirmed.
Donegal County Council and Limavady Borough Council yesterday confirmed that agreement had been reached for the continuation of both the Buncrana to Rathmullan service and the Greencastle to Magilligan service for Summer 2009.
Negotiations are underway, meanwhile, to agree a new tender to allow the full-time Foyle service continue on an ongoing basis after September 30.
The Foyle Ferry arriving in Greencastle "Donegal County Council and Limavady Borough Council have confirmed that the current service on Lough Foyle has been extended to run to September 30, 2009 ensuring that the peak summer season is covered.
"Negotiations are ongoing as part of a new tender process with a view to the service being continued on an ongoing
basis and the Councils have indicated that they expect this process to be completed in the coming weeks," said a Donegal County Council spokesperson.
The spokesperson also confirmed that the Swilly service would run for ten weeks from Friday, June 19 until Monday, August 31, 2009.
