Search for missing woman enters third day 13.01.09

AN extensive air and sea search for a missing woman enters its third day in the Kinnego Bay area of Inishowen today. The woman was named locally last night as Dr Deirdre O'Flaherty, a mother and GP based in the Strabane area. The alarm was raised around midday on Sunday when a passer-by noticed her BMW 4x4 parked on the beach with the keys still in the ignition. The initial search got underway around 12.50pm on Sunday co-ordinated by Malin Head Marine Rescue Co-Ordination Centre. Greencastle Coast Guard and Portrush RNLI were again deployed to the scene yesterday where an off-shore and in-shore search got underway at first light. The coast guard search and rescue helicopter from Sligo returned for a second day and continued searching the area from around 1.30pm until 4pm.
Greencastle Coast Guard officer-in-charge, Charles Cavanagh, said Monday’s search party numbered more than 50 including rescue personnel, locals and family and friends of the missing woman.
Around 15 divers from the Inishowen Sub Aqua Club and Maiden City Sub Aqua Club in Derry also helped in the search.

to Culdaff Bay but discovered nothing,” said Mr Cavanagh last night.
“We’ve also had shore teams combing the shoreline in the same areas.” There was a large sea swell again yesterday although visibility was better than on Sunday.
The search which was scaled down after dark last night is scheduled to begin again this morning at first light around 8am.
The missing woman, who is in her early 40s and married to a Moville-born GP, is understood to have been staying at the family holiday home in Kinnego Bay over the weekend.
