Hopes for Carn NCT in 2010 30.10.09

PROGRESS is likely to be made in the New Year on an NCT centre for Inishowen, according to Senator Cecilia Keaveney. Purchase of site in Carndonagh fell through earlier this year but an alternative site for the 2,000sq ft NCT facility was actively pursued.
Minister Noel Dempsey, T.D. this week informed the Moville-based senator that progress on the proposed Carn site would be made early in 2010.
"Given the battle to have it acknowledged that a centre was necessary for Inishowen, it has been one hurdle after another in relation to getting the facility up and running," she said.
Senator Cecilia Keaveney "There had been a site identified and a promise of testing commencing over a year ago and that fell through. The process began again and there was a change in who delivered the National Car Testing which has delayed things even further."
She said she was assured that a car testing centre for the peninsula was "very much still on the agenda".
"News that the testing centre for Inishowen is very much still on the agenda and is being planned for the New Year will be news which the general population in
Inishowen will welcome.
"I, like them however this time, will be awaiting the first test and not perhaps another false dawn. I know the Minister will continue to hear more from me as the countdown to local car testing begins," she added.
