Carn school to get superfast internet 01.07.09

CARNDONAGH Community School is among four secondaries in Donegal North East named for a pilot project bringing them superfast internet services.
Loreto Convent and St Eunan’s College in Letterkenny and Loreto Community School in Milford are the other three of a total of 78 schools nationwide that will get the high speed broadband as part of a €16 million Government investment.
The connections will give students instant internet access anywhere in their school building, said Fianna Fail TD Niall Blaney.
“This marks the next phase in the Government’s ambition to develop our schools into centres of e-learning and to make technology an integral part of the learning process.
“The schools taking part will be able to access 100 mega bits per seconds of broadband anywhere in the school building. This is part of a pilot project that runs until the end of 2011," said Deputy Blaney.
High speed wireless broadband allows students to upload and download material faster with access to high-volume digital educations content and instant connections to websites from any part of the school.
“Earlier this year it was announced that more than 70 primary schools across the country in which major construction work was completed last year could get €5,000 per classroom to but IT equipment.
“The Government is committed to building schools' ICT capacity because technology literacy is so vital in today’s working world,” added Deputy Blaney.
