Scott is king of the shearers 04.06.09

WORLD record holder Ivan Scott from Kilmacrennan, Co Donegal, beat off the challenge of five other elite sheep shearers to win the Clik International Open title at the All Ireland Sheep Shearing Championships in Burt at the weekend.
New Zealand-based Scott held off the efforts of title holder, Hamish Mitchell from Scotland, in a final line-up that also included Simon Bedwell, Scotland, Anthony Rooke, England, Mark Fox, England, and Rhys Jones, Wales. Scott also retained the Irish Open Championship.
The Five Nations International Championship, involving three man teams from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic, was won by Scotland, captained by Hamish Mitchell. Wales came second followed by England, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Ivan Scott set the new world record for “single stand” shearing recently when he sheared 736 Romney strongwool lambs in eight hours in New Zealand. In beating the previous record of 731. Over 1,500 sheep were sheared by 200 shearers in 14 competitions during the championships which attracted over 10,000 spectators during the weekend.
Presenting the trophy to the winner, Margaret Cashman of sponsors Novartis Animal Health, said Scott’s victory was a tribute to his tremendous skill, speed and sheep handling dexterity.
