Earagail Arts Festival - from Tory to Culdaff 01.06.07

Around 100 guests gathered earlier this week for the launch of the Earagail Arts Festival 2007 which includes events across the North West from Tory Island to Culdaff in July.
Ireland’s Ambassador to the Council of Europe, James Sharkey, performed the official launch of this year's programme which ties in with the 400th Anniversary of the Flight of The Earls with its theme 'Migration and Diaspora'
As always, festival organisers have arranged an eclectic line-up featuring award-winning international performers, old favourites and potential stars of tomorrow. From drama to music, visual art exhibitions, movies and a venue that includes the belly of a giant whale, there's something to suit all tastes over the festival's two-week run. The drama programme will include the multi-award winning 'Sclavi: Song of An Immigrant' and Pat McCabe’s stage production of 'The Butcher Boy' - 'Frank Pig Says Hello'. Music will be provided by, among others, Jamaican reggae forefathers The Skatalites and new young music troubadours Seth Lakeman and Declan O’Rourke.
An art exhibition - Painting in the Noughties - will bring together a collection of abstract and semi-abstract paintings by leading artists, including Sean Scully, Jason Martin, Ian Davenport, and Cecily Brown.
And it doesn’t stop there. You can watch the classic movie 'Jaws' on the beach or take a trip inside the aforementioned whale! The whale, in question, is a true-to-life 50ft model of a sperm whale which exhibits traditional Irish hospitality, welcoming you inside its belly to hear fishy tales from mermaids and pirates!
The festival, which runs from July 7th to July 22nd, is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, Failté Ireland and Donegal County Council among others.
