ICRfm to air story of Armada shipwreck 01.06.07

Inishowen Community Radio (ICR) will next week broadcast a documentary on La Trinidad Valencera - the Spanish Armada ship that sank off the coast of Kinnagoe Bay in 1588.
Kinnagoe Bay - where the wreck of La Trinidad Valencera was discovered. “La Trinidad Valencera – Inishowen’s Most Famous Shipwreck” is a one-off 45-minute documentary examining both the history surrounding the fourth largest ship in the fleet and how she came to be discovered.
Presented and produced by ICR assistant manager, Emma McDermott, the programme will also follow the archaeological operation on the ship
right through to the popular Spanish Armada Exhibition currently running at Derry's Tower Museum.
Emma speaks to Jack Scoltock, one of the original divers from the City of Derry Sub Aqua Club who discovered the wreck in 1971 along with another of the divers, Eamon Molloy, who was heavily involved in the archaeological salvage operation that followed.
Meanwhile, local historian Charlie McCann outlines details of other shipwrecks around Inishowen while Tower Museum education officer, Margaret Edwards talks about the long-running exhibition.
“La Trinidad Valencera – Inishowen’s Most Famous Shipwreck” was produced at Inishowen Community Radio with the support of the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland’s Sound and Vision Fund.
To hear it, tune on Friday, June 8th, at 4pm to ICRfm 105 and 107.6 FM.
