'Mooooving' rescue for lifeboat crew 10.12.07

THE Lough Swilly lifeboat crew answered an unusual call last week when a cow got cut off by the tide.
The 'mooooving' incident took place on Thursday when the crew were out on the lough on a training exercise.
The RNLI lifeboat had an unusual call out when a cow got stranded at Linsfort. Helmsman Stephen McGavigan explained that they received a request for assistance from the farmer whose cow got trapped by the incoming tide in a cave in the Linsfort area, outside Buncrana.
"It was the strangest shout that I have been on," he said.
"We received a request from
a local farmer who informed us that his cow had become trapped in a cave by the incoming tide. Upon arriving on scene we could see that the animal was very distressed.
"The cow was surrounded by water and had no means of escape. Two crew members went ashore and guided the animal in to the water and back safely to the beach were the owner then took charge of the situation," added Stephen.
