Greens and FF hammer out deal 13.06.07

Donegal North East's three newly elected TDs watched closely last night as the Green Party and Fianna Fáil agreed a five-year draft programme for government.
The 90-page document will be put to a vote at a special Green Party conference this afternoon and will also be discussed by the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party.
Donegal's only elected Green Party member, Cllr. Neil Clarke of Letterkenny Town Council will travel to the Mansion House in Dublin today to vote on the proposals that would see the Green Party in power for the first time in the history of the State.
Donegal Green Party Cllr. Neil Clarke who will vote on programme for Government. Meanwhile, FF negotiator, Minister Seamus Brennan said the draft programme covered all major policy areas but did not deal with the distribution of ministerial portfolios.
He said these would be decided by Green Party leader Trevor Sargent and Fianna Fáil leader Bertie Ahern at a later stage.
The winning of six seats brought the Green Party to the negotiating table.
Party leader Trevor Sargent said he believed the roadblocks leading to the collapse of talks last Friday had been cleared. He also said it was recognised by the parties that there would be a role for the two Progressive Democrats deputies and for Independents in the formation of the next Government.
The Donegal North East electorate including nearly 17,000 voters in Inishowen returned one Fine Gael and two Fianna Fail deputies including Deputies Joe McHugh, James McDaid and Niall Blaney respectively. The three are now gearing up for the first sitting of the 30th Dail.
Meanwhile, the Donegal South West constituency returned the same TDs, namely Mary Coughlan and Pat The Cope Gallagher for Fianna Fail and Deputy Dinny McGinley for Fine Gael.
