Sewage dumped at Urris beach 08.06.07

Donegal County Council is investigating the alleged dumping of sewage in sand dunes on a beach on the Inishowen peninsula.
The investigation centres on allegations that the contents of septic tanks were dumped at a beach near Urris, Clonmany.
Independent Cllr. Nicholas Crossan recently brought the matter to the attention of local authority officials, citing concerns about pollution.
"I was very concerned when I heard about this so I informed the environment section of Donegal County Council.
"I would now like a complete investigation into where the contents of the septic tanks came from, why they were dumped in this

particular spot and also, the possible damage it could do to the sand dunes and the beach."
Cllr. Crossan, a member of Buncrana Town Council, said the Inishowen peninsula relied heavily on the quality of its beaches for tourism.
"The quality of our beaches must be maintained to the highest standards if this area is to flourish as a tourist destination. We certainly don't want dumping of this nature in any part of Inishowen or any part of Donegal for that matter."
A spokesperson for the local authority yesterday confirmed that an investigation was underway but that no statement would be released until the investigation was completed.
