GARDAI are hunting a
pair of callous thieves who robbed a local mother in
broad daylight at an ATM machine in Buncrana.
Two men came up behind the woman at around 3pm on
Good Friday, April 22 last as she attempted to use
the AIB Banklink cash point on Buncrana’s Main
Street.
As soon as the victim had entered her four-digit pin
number the men, who had been in the queue behind,
threatened her before demanding that she withdraw
€400 and hand it over.
The shocked woman, who was in Buncrana with her two
sons at the time of the attack, was unable to get a
good look at the bandits before they made their
escape on foot. One of the culprits is believed to
have been wearing a grey hoodie though while the
other wore a baseball cap.
The woman reported the frightening attack, details
of which have only emerged this week, to the Gardai
and officers are understood to be studying CCTV
footage in a bid to catch the culprits.
A spokesperson for Allied Irish Bank said that
members of the public should not put themselves in
danger when approached at ATM machines. The bank
official also confirmed that victims are generally
always reimbursed after such attacks.
Anyone with information should contact the Buncrana
Garda station on 0749320540. (Inishowen
