Sheer delight for Burt's Brian 28.01.11

by Caoimhinn Barr, Inishowen Independent

BURT singing sensation Brian Sheerin is still struggling to come to terms with his sudden rise to stardom after topping the public vote in the All-Ireland Talent Show last Sunday.
After successfully clearing the first hurdle of the RTE television show in style, the 21-year-old has now set his sights on winning the competition and €50,000 in prize money.
“I still can’t quite believe it’s happening. It probably hasn’t really sunk in yet but it is a nice feeling and I would like to thank everyone for getting behind me at the weekend,” he said.
“It’s absolutely brilliant. I didn’t even expect to get this far but now I’m aiming to reach the final. The way everyone has got behind me by voting has been absolutely brilliant.”
Mentored by Dana, Brian said the former Eurovision winner was proving a real asset.
“Dana is great, she has been a real support.

Before I went out onto the stage she reassured me that the public would like me and that was a real help,” he said.
Prior to his stunning rendition of 'Caledonia' on Sunday, Brian drew up a list of five songs he favoured before RTE settled on the Dougie MacClean Scottish folk ballad.
With three-year old son Jack as his biggest supporter, Brian is also backed by enthusiastic parents, Brian and Mairead, and brothers and sisters, James, John, Ann Marie and Clare.
A talented forward on the Burt Gaelic football team, Brian has been honing his musical skills since the age of ten when he first picked up a guitar and sang.
“Music has always been in me I suppose,” he said. With an eclectic taste in music, these days you could find him listening to or playing anything from Paolo Nutini to Neil Young or Cat Stevens.
Due back on the All-Ireland Talent Show stage on the weekend of March 6 or 13 next, the Inishowen man is keeping his feet on the ground ahead of his biggest ever performance in the semi-finals. “Hopefully I can bring the title back to Burt,” he added.
