GARDAI are not treating
as suspicious the tragic death of a woman in a fire
in Carndonagh on New Year's Eve.
The badly charred remains of Elizabeth McLaughlin
(Loftus) were discovered in the living room of her
home at Clós Phádraig, off the Malin Road, last
Friday around 11am. The blaze had done little damage
to the surrounding furniture.
A garda technical examination was undertaken at the
scene of the accident and a post mortem was carried
out by the state pathologist at Letterkenny General
Hospital. "Gardai at this point are not viewing the
death of Ms McLaughlin as suspicious," a
spokesperson said yesterday. The victim, a separated
mother-of-five, lived alone in the semi-detached
house in the quiet cul-de-sac. For funeral
