PEOPLE in Inishowen are
being encouraged to have their say on how Co Donegal
will be shaped and developed from next year.
The existing County Development Plan expires in July
2012 and Donegal County Council is currently
preparing the Draft County Development Plan to cover
the six years from 2012 - 2018.
"The preparatory work has been shaped and influenced
by a number of factors, not least which are the
current economic issues and the need to provide a
framework within which the county’s strengths and
assets can be sustainably developed," said a
spokesperson.
Policies are being drawn up to guide infrastructural
development, economic development and to ensure that
social and environmental responsibility guides how
the authorities utilise the land resources and
assets in the county.
The Draft Plan is the principal instrument in the
management of change in the county including growth
within settlements and rural area, renewal and
regeneration, the protection of our heritage
(natural and man-made), as well as the many and
varied pressures on the landscape in the form of
different types of development.
"The Draft Plan is the basis for inviting public
consideration of the issues with a firm eye on the
future," added the spokesperson.
Submissions on the strategic issues raised and the
emerging policy framework are needed to add value
and provide the council with as clear a picture as
possible of public opinion.
The nature of the submissions will be formally
presented to the Council in November 2011 along with
the Draft Plan. Should further changes be necessary,
these will be re-published for an additional period
of public consultation before a final decision is
taken on the Plan.
Written submissions are invited on the Draft County
Development Plan 2012-2018 and should be forwarded
to the Central Planning Unit, Donegal County
Council, County House, Lifford or by e-mail to
cdp.review@donegalcoco.ie . The public
consultation period commenced on June 13, 2011 and
expires at 4.30pm on August 22, 2011.
The documents and associated maps are available for
inspection and download on
www.donegalcoco.ie Copies will be on display at
County House, Lifford and in each of the Council’s
Public Service Centres and can be purchased on
request for €50.00. The Draft Plan will also be
available on CD for a fee of €10.00.
Drop-in consultation events have been organised at
which the Draft Plan can be viewed and staff will be
