Marathon man Joe scoops bronze 03.11.11

JOE McKinney is the toast of Inishowen athletics this week after scooping a national bronze medal during a remarkable run at the Dublin City Marathon on Monday.
Recording a scintillating time of just 2 hours and 37 minutes, Joe also set a new Inishowen AC club record during the annual run, which attracted more than 14,000 athletes to the streets of the capital.
There were mixed emotions on the day for the 19 Inishowen AC runners who took part.
Frank Lavelle was on course to break his previous marathon time of 3 hours, 15 minutes but a niggling injury flared up and after medical attention he decided to finish the race since he was running for charity. Helena Crossan made a return to the Dublin Marathon with a steady performance and posted a superb 2 hour, 56 minutes finishing time.
Carndonagh athlete, Jim Harkin, making his debut at the distance, put in a great performance, crossing the line in a time of 3 hours, 5 minutes with Patrick Doherty and Pat Gallagher next over the line in a time of 3 hours, 7 minutes followed by
Joe McKinney.
