Special day for people of Glengad

GLENGAD enjoyed a red
letter day on Saturday with the official opening of
the local community resource centre.
The day marked the completion of the third and final
phase of the development project with committee
members, locals and invited guests turning out for
the special occasion.
Funding body, the International Fund for Ireland (IFI)
was on hand to perform the official opening of the
fully-completed centre. The centre was originally
established to provide an important community
facility catering for the Glencad community and in
particular the needs of its young people.
The fully completed building now provides a
multi-purpose centre comprising rental units, a
community resource unit, an auditorium/sports
facility, offices, kitchen and drying facilities.
It was part-funded by the International Fund for
Ireland, who provided over €200,000 under its Rural
Development Programme. |

IFI senior development
officer, Paddy Harte Jnr., said his organisation
welcomed the completion of the latest development
project.
"Glengad Community Resource Centre is now ideally
positioned to provide a valued range of social and
economic responses to the needs of all members of
the community and tourists to the area. May I
commend all those from the Glengad Association for
their vision and perseverance in seeing this project
through to its completion today," he told the launch
gathering.
Mr Harte also expressed a collective thanks to the
international donors who have supported IFI for
almost 25 years, namely, the United States of
America, the European Union, Canada, Australia and
New Zealand.
Glengad Community Resource Centre is owned and run
by the Glengad Community Association, a non-profit
making cross-community organisation established in
1996. Glengad is a small rural community seven
kilometres north-east of Malin Town in north
Inishowen.
Glengad Community Association chairman, Vincent
Kelly said: “The completion of the project is of
huge importance to our local people and provides a
much needed focal point for social, economic and
cultural regeneration in the area. It is a great
feeling to stand here today and witness the vision
of our ambitious project become a reality. May I
take this opportunity to thank all those involved in
supporting us on this journey and in particular the
financial support we received from the International
Fund for Ireland, which was of major significance in
