Horror show for councillor quartet 09.02.11

by Caoimhinn Barr, Inishowen Independent

THERE was another horror show from our local politicians last weekend when four Inishowen county councillors met the crew of monster movie, 'Grabbers'.
Councillors Martin Farren, Charlie McConalogue, Black Mickey Doherty and Bernard McGuinness were given a quick lesson in film-making at Caratra Beach in Culdaff by the production team who were based here for much of January.
The quartet of public representatives was accompanied by Aideen Doherty, of the Donegal Film Office, who was praised by Donegal North-East election candidate Charlie McConalogue.
“There has been some great work carried out by Aideen in securing a number of films here over the past few years, which has been excellent news for the local economy,” he said.

Focussing on the 'Grabbers' movie, Cllr McConalogue said it had been a breath of fresh air.
“The film has been great news for a number of different locations across the peninsula. It has brought a great sense of excitement to places like Moville and Culdaff. The locals have enjoyed working with the 'Grabbers' crew and they have certainly enjoyed having them around. A number of locals have even gone on to work in the film industry as a result,” he added.
Starring Richard Coyle (Prince of Persia), Derry’s Bronagh Gallagher (The Commitments) and Ruth Bradley (Flyboys), 'Grabbers' provides a comic twist on the classic suburban monster horror as a sleepy Irish fishing village is forced to fend off a blood sucking sea creature with an unlikely weapon, alcohol!
'Grabbers' will open in cinemas in 2012, with one of the premieres likely to be held here.
