THE Donegal North East
electorate will have a chance to grill the
candidates
looking for their votes with two upcoming debates in
the constituency.
Letterkenny Chamber has invited candidates to join a
debate with members of the business community on
February 18 while Inishowen Community Radio is
giving listeners a chance to put their questions to
the would-be TDs in the studio on February 15.
Letterkenny Chamber president Patrick McGinley is
encouraging people to attend his organisation's
debate in the Station House Hotel. "We decided to
invite all the candidates running in Donegal North
East so that the Chamber members and others could
hear at first-hand why they should give them their
vote. This election comes at a time when businesses
and their employees are feeling the full effects of
the spending cuts, tax increases and lack of
credit," he said.
"It is important that we open this debate to examine
how those elected from this area will deliver for
Donegal. We have consistently called for balanced
regional development and more than ever we need to
have our voice heard. We know that whoever goes
forward to lead the country has to deal with a major
deficit. However, the business community wants
strong leadership, confidence and clarity on the way
forward.
"We hope this debate will enable us to understand
what the policies and manifestos of the parties and
candidates really mean and will allow the business
community to clearly articulate their issues back to
those who will represent us in the Dáil," added Mr
McGinley. The Letterkenny Chamber debate will take
place in the Station House Hotel on Friday, February
18 at 11am. It will be chaired independently and
some time will be available for questions from the
floor. Places can be booked by contacting
Letterkenny Chamber on 074 9124866 or emailing
toni@letterkennychamber.com .
