BURNFOOT man Jack
Murray is to be Deputy Pádraig MacLochlainn's
replacement on Donegal County Council, it's been
confirmed. The 26 year old will be endorsed at a
Sinn Féin convention in Buncrana this evening.
“I have known Jack since he has been in college and
it was always clear to me that he displayed great
potential. I am delighted that he has been nominated
to represent Sinn Féin and Inishowen on the County
Council," said Deputy MacLochlainn.
The soon-to-be councillor has been involved in
politics for most of his adult life. After studying
Irish History and Politics in Magee he moved to
South Armagh where he was employed as Sinn Féin’s
director of publicity for the Newry/Armagh
constituency. |

He later became a
political advisor with the Sinn Féin assembly team
in Stormont before moving back to Donegal where he
is a youth worker at Abhaile Arís in Letterkenny. He
was appointed press officer for Sinn Féin in Donegal
- playing a central role in the party's successful
election campaigns in both constituencies in the
county.
“Jack is extremely passionate about politics and
about Donegal. Having watched the majority of his
school friends emigrate he is driven to bring about
job creation in Inishowen in order to stem the tide
of youth emigration.
“With his reputation as a hard worker and a man with
integrity, I have no doubt that he will be a great
representative for Inishowen.”
Jack Murray was educated at St. Aengus’s National
School, Bridgend and Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana.
He was editor of Sinn Féin's monthly newspaper
‘Nuacht’ and oversaw the publicity campaign for the
re-election of the North’s Regional Development
Minister, Conor Murphy as MP for the area. He was a
co-founder of ‘Moil an Óige’ youth organisation in
South Armagh and was later appointed to the Sinn
Féin Assembly team in Stormont as political advisor
to Mickey Brady MLA. |
