Murray is youngest Council
chairman
15.07.11
COUNCILLOR Jack Murray
has been elected the youngest ever chairperson of
the Inishowen Electoral Area committee of Donegal
County Council.
Congratulating the 26-year old, Pádraig MacLochlainn
TD said: “At a time when the shadow of youth
emigration hangs over Donegal again, it is
understandable that young people have become
disillusioned from a political system which has let
them down over recent years. |

committee chairman, pictured with Deputy Pádraig

this year. |
“Jack Murray will use
this position to promote the role of young people in
politics and encourage more young people to take
ownership of political affairs.
“Sinn Féin actively promotes young people to take on
roles as elected representatives. This was recently
evident when Niall O’Donnaghaille, who is also 26,
was appointed as the youngest ever Mayor of
Belfast.”
Cllr Murray, who is a councillor just four months,
was elected chairperson at last Tuesday's Inishowen
electoral area AGM in Carndonagh.
"The fact that I was selected and unanimously
endorsed by all councillors in Inishowen shows
clearly that there is a position for young people in
politics. I want to thank all councillors in
Inishowen for doing so." He paid tribute to outgoing
"hard working" chairperson Cllr Mickey Doherty. He
also thanked him for the courtesy he showed him
since joining the council. |
