Inishowen La Leche
League celebrates National Breastfeeding Week
MUMS in Inishowen are being invited to a 'nearly
new' mother and baby sale this weekend in Carndonagh.
The sale including baby clothes, toys and books will
be held at Carndonagh Community Market. It is being
hosted by the local branch of the La Leche League to
celebrate National Breastfeeding Week and raise
funds for the local branch.
The La Leche League volunteers provide information
and encouragement to local breastfeeding mothers.
They recognise that, although breastfeeding is the
normal way to feed your baby, many mothers need some
help and support.
Breastfeeding rates in Ireland are relatively low
and this has been shown to be often down to lack of
help and advocacy for the mother, says local
spokesperson, Claire Gilmour.
She invited mothers to note the times and dates of
the two monthly La Leche League meetings in the
peninsula.
They take place on the second Tuesday of the month
at 7.30pm at the IDP offices, Pound Street,
Carndonagh and on the second Friday of the month at
10.30am in Drung, Quigley’s Point. The meetings are
run on a voluntary basis and refreshments are
provided. Meanwhile, the nearly new sale will take
place at Carndonagh Community Market this Saturday,
October 1, in Colgan Hall, Carn from 12 midday -
3pm.
