A GREENCASTLE man who has lived in London for much
of the past six decades came home to mark two
memorable family occasions last weekend.
Liam Campbell celebrated an extra special 80th
birthday in his beloved Inishowen - the same day his
daughter Angela married her fiancé Guy Rawson. |
Brought up in the Cairn
area of Greencastle, Liam emigrated to the English
capital almost 60 years ago but has made the journey
back to the banks of the Foyle for his birthday
every August since. The plucky pensioner even has
his own seat in the popular Sean Ti bar, where he is
toasted each summer.
Happy couple, Angela and Guy, decided to hold their
wedding here in the North West so that Liam could be
guest of honour at their big day and also keep up
his annual tradition of celebrating his birthday in
Greencastle.
After getting married in Derry’s picturesque
Guildhall last Friday week, the bride and groom
joined family and friends as celebrations continued
into the night at the Caiseal Mara Hotel, Moville. |

The following evening
Liam took centre stage in the Sean Ti for a birthday
bash to remember.
A father of six, he also has some thirty
grandchildren and great grandchildren. Liam, whose
wife Mena passed away 25 years ago, was joined by
family and friends, including son Donald and
daughters Olive, Genevieve, Angela, Sandra and
Deborah, for the double celebrations last weekend.
Around 100 wedding and birthday guests enjoyed
Inishowen so much that many intend to make plans for
a return visit next year.
With his daughter Angela and her new husband Guy
currently travelling around Ireland on honeymoon,
Liam intends to remain in Inishowen for another week
before coming back for his 81st birthday next year.
His seat in the Sean Ti is already booked for August
2012! |
