'IRELAND'S Greatest'
John Hume will officially open Inishowen's newest
festival next weekend.
The inaugural Lighthouse Festival kicks off in the
seaside town of Moville on Friday, July 29 with a
packed programme of events for the whole family.
Large crowds are expected for the new Foyleside
festival where "a new energy" is promised along with
a number of top musical acts including Knights of
Leon who will perform in the new festival arena, The
Courtyard.
The organisers promise something for everyone from 1
to 100 years of age including musical carnival,
busking on the streets, morning aerobics on the sea
front, craft fair in the Market Square, a family
sports day and seafood cookery demonstration.
Another first for this year's festival is a play
being performed in The Trawlerman bar. 'The Parting
- Farewell To The Foyle' was written by local
playwright and historian Martin Lynch.
The Lighthouse Festival coincides with one of
Ireland's oldest regattas while there will also be a
traditional car treasure hunt; water sports and a
pageant.
"The mission is to create a real family summer
festival atmosphere," said a spokesperson. |
