Praise for Lisfannon golf history book 07.11.11

THE North West Golf Club has been warmly congratulated for its book and exhibition chronicling the history of the Lisfannon club.
President of the County Donegal Historical Society, Declan O'Carroll, particularly commended the editor of 'The Story of the North West Golf Club 1891-2011', Claire Cully, for producing a "valuable record" of the long-standing links.
"Mrs Cully has produced a fascinating and absorbing account of golf in the club for the past 120 years and I marvel at the fact that so many photographs and records of the early days are extant and used by her in the book.
"How lucky she was to unearth them and how valuable a record she has now consigned to the history of the North West Golf Club," said Mr O'Carroll.

Describing the book as an "excellent production" he commented that it succeeded admirably in researching, recording and preserving the social and sporting history of the club.
"These are also the core objectives of the County Donegal Historical Society which was formed in 1946 to pursue this aim. It is a legacy, not alone to the golf club, but to the county as well," added Mr O'Carroll.
NWGC has a special place in the annals of golf in Ireland as it was one of only two Donegal clubs - with Portsalon - to be founder members of the Golfing Union of Ireland in 1891.
