INISHOWEN parishioners have been warned to be on the
lookout for a ‘crowd of religious fruitcakes’
peddling hoax ‘Padre Pio Bread’.
Revealing that a number of locals have already been
duped by the unholy scam, Burt priest Fr Gerard
Sweeney said he wouldn’t even feed the bread to
rats.
“It is absolutely disgusting and a total health
hazard full of germs. Anyone who eats this bread
will probably end up in hospital with a case of
botchulism. It has nothing to do with the Catholic
faith and is complete and utter nonsense,” he said. |
The peculiar homemade
bread comes with a bizarre set of instructions. It
must be made up over a ten-day period using only a
wooden spoon before being shared with three other
‘believers’.
The bogus creators of the looney loaf, similar to a
chain letter, warn parishioners that they cannot
refuse to accept the dough and that they must pass
it on after ten days.
They claim the bread, also known as Hemin, comes
from Padre Pio and is endorsed by the Vatican. It
purports also to ‘bring blessings’ to the families
of those who eat it.
Fr Sweeney warned anyone who comes into contact with
the bread in the future to ‘bin it straight away’.
He said the ‘religious fruitcakes’ behind the bogus
scheme are playing on people’s fears. |

People have been warned not to eat
the so-called 'Padre Pio Bread'. |
“Many parishioners are afraid that they must pass
the bread on or something bad might happen. I would
love to meet the people behind it and tell them it’s
a load of rubbish. If they bring it to me, I’ll soon
bin it, ” he added. |
