by Eamonn McDermott, Inishowen Independent

CHILDREN from Scoil Eoghan in Moville are facing the “exciting but daunting” task of opening a major conference on social justice tomorrow and meeting the Dalai Lama.
The children from fifth class are travelling to Dublin for the conference entitled 'Possibilities’ to be held in Citywest Hotel on April 13.
Teacher Rose Kelly explained: “The children put on a performance in a project we were doing in conjunction with the Family Resource Centre.
“Their performance was noticed and they were put in for this conference in Dublin and have been selected to perform at the opening.”
She added: “This is a major conference on social justice organised by Children in Crossfire and an organisation called AFRi and will be looking at social justice and injustice.
Children from fifth class at Scoil Eoghan, Moville, who will perform at a conference in Dublin chaired by the Dalai Lama.
“The conference will be chaired by the Dalai Lama and the speakers will include Richard Moore and Mary Robinson.
“Afterwards the children will act as a guard of honour for the Dalai Lama and then get to meet him.”
Ms Kelly said it was a "great honour" for the children.
“All in all some 36 children were involved in this project but not all of them are going to Dublin.
“The piece they did is called ‘Close your Eyes’ and it looked at social justice and inequalities.
“As part of it, the children had to research and get figures on the Gorta Mór (The Great Famine) and then look at how resources are used and indeed wasted.”
She added: “As well as the thrill of performing at this conference the children also learned quite a lot from this experience.
“You could see that they were very conscious that they are not only performing a piece of street theatre but that they are speaking for children who have no voice.”
