Simply Music celebrates 15 years
17.05.11
INISHOWEN community
project Simply Music will celebrate its 15th
anniversary with a gala concert in Buncrana.
The concert - to which the audience is invited to
'bring your own bottle' - will take place at
Tullyarvan Mill on Saturday, May 21. It will feature
a host of North West musical talent including Simply
Music tutors.
Simply Music is supported by Donegal County Council
and its aim is to make music accessible to all ages
and all abilities. It offers group classes and
one-to-one tuition in a wide range of instruments,
voice and music theory. Taditional, rock, classical,
musical theatre and music technology are just some
of the disciplines covered in classes and workshops
throughout the year. The community music project has
been building year-on-year since its inception and
now boasts more than 250 students, aged from one to
seventy five years. Simply Music manager, Ciara
Herron said the anniversary was an important
milestone.
”There is no better way to celebrate than to
showcase our tutors. They are musicians and
performers who form part of this area’s phenomenal
music scene and they work hard throughout the year
to inspire our next generation of musicians. We’re
looking forward to a great night of music.” |
The concert will
feature performances from the group's tutors,
including Jim Woods, accordion and bodhrán player
with The Young Wolfe Tones and The Liz Doherty Band;
Ray Curran, the Derry-based troubadour and sometime
member of Duke Special’s band and Siobhán Shiels,
vocalist with local upcoming group, John Deery and
the Heads. Also appearing are Buncrana-based band,
Palamino, about to release their debut single ‘Hot
Pumps,’ and Derry’s The Free Radicals. |
