Get on board with Clipper countdown 17.05.12

THE countdown is on for the forthcoming Clipper Homecoming Festival when a ten-strong fleet of 68-foot yachts will be welcomed into the Foyle next month.
The festival is scheduled to take place in Derry from June 29 – July 8 as part of the final transatlantic leg of the world’s longest ocean race. The event will also be widely celebrated along the Inishowen shores of the lough with a festival and maritime events planned in Greencastle from June 30 to July 7.
Pictured at the Get on Board briefing as part of the Clipper Homecoming Festival are Derry Mayor, Alderman Maurice Devenney with, front from left, Siobhan McGuigan, NITB and Sharon O’Connor, town clerk and CEO, Derry City Council. Standing from left, Jonathan Levy, director of business development for race organisers, Clipper Ventures, Padraig McConway , bursary representative, Derrick Anderson, Loughs Agency, Niall Boyle, bursary representative and harbour master, Bill McCann.
Derry City Council chief executive, Sharon O’Connor said Clipper was a "unique opportunity" to promote the city. “The city is physically changing thanks to investment in the public realm, the opening of Ebrington Square, the Peace Bridge and the significant investment in the Foyle Events Marina. "The scale and pace of this investment is building real confidence and opportunity for local businesses and communities. The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race will be a chance to showcase all of these developments to a worldwide audience, and will be one of the most exciting events the city will ever host." She said the event would also raise the profile of the city in the lead up to City of Culture 2013.
