EXPERIENCED Irish
nurses are urgently required in Sydney and other
areas of New South Wales (NSW) in Australia.
Mental health nurses and midwives are in big demand
as the NSW health board launches a recruitment drive
to hire 70 Irish nurses. Galway-based recruitment
agency ICE Group is co-ordinating the campaign in
association with the NSW health authorities. The
recruitment drive is needed to address a shortage of
registered nurses in public hospitals.
Successful candidates are being promised attractive
employment packages with "lucrative salaries and
opportunities for real career advancement".
“There are excellent career opportunities for Irish
nurses in New South Wales,” said ICE Group director,
Margaret Cox. “Australia’s state-funded healthcare
service is very similar to the HSE which makes it
easy for Irish nurses to adapt quickly. There’s also
a big community of Irish nurses in New South Wales
so getting used to the new lifestyle takes very
little adjustment,” she said. Ms Cox said NSW
hospitals have generous staffing levels with a
predominantly registered nurse workforce. She said
nurses there enjoy some of the best pay and
employment conditions in Australia. The package also
includes visa sponsorship for one to four years or
longer.
“Irish nurses’ qualifications and experience are
highly regarded in Australia,” said NSW chief
nursing and midwifery officer, Susan Pearce.
Patients respond well to their attitude and
knowledge as well as their warmth and friendliness.
Irish nurses are always welcome here,” she added.
Interviews will take place in Dublin on Friday,
December 7, with positions commencing in 2013. Full
