01.05.12
BALLYSHANNON is tuning
up for the Rory Gallagher International Tribute
Festival with 12,000 visitors expected to descend on
the Co Donegal town at the end of the month.
More than 30 acts will perform on 15 stages over the
four days from Thursday, May 31 until June 3. Irish
rock legends Horslips will be among the headline
acts. It will be a first Irish festival performance
for the band since reforming in 2009 with Johnny
Fean, Barry Devlin, Jim Lockhart and Charles
O’Connor. Fans can look forward to reliving many
memories of seeing the band in the 1970s and 1980s. |

Jim Lockhart said: "We
knew Rory very well and we are honoured to be going
home to his hometown of birth to celebrate great
rock music. Donegal is a spiritual home to Horslips,
so returning after many years and doing it for Rory
in Ballyshannon is going to be classic”.
Barry Devlin from Horslips added: “I have been to
the Rory Gallagher Festival in Ballyshannon on three
occasions and I absolutely love the vibe, the
international visitors and for us to play in honour
of Rory, its going to be brilliant."
Festival chairperson Barry O’Neill said there had
been "huge interest" in this year's festival line-up
which includes Rolling Stones guitarist – Mick
Taylor & Band, Dr Feelgood, Pat McManus, Johnny
Gallagher, Sinnerboy, Larry Miller Band, Moonchild
and many more. A special weekend ticket for the Big
Top concerts are available at €50. |
